Greece's Startup Ecosystem in 2026: Maturity, Momentum, and a New Era of Incentives

Greece's startup sector is decisively moving past its emerging-market phase. In 2025, more than €732 million was invested across over 90 startups — a 35% increase year-on-year — with the majority of that capital now flowing into Series A and later rounds rather than early-stage pre-seed activity, a clear signal that Greek companies are reaching genuine scale rather than staying perpetually early-stage.

That momentum is precisely what sits behind the Golden Visa programme's newer Startup investment route, which lets non-EU nationals qualify for residency with a €250,000 investment into a startup registered on the Elevate Greece platform. For investors with a tech or venture background, it offers an alternative to real estate: a way to gain EU residency while participating directly in one of Southeast Europe's fastest-maturing innovation economies.
